Why KNX Still Matters in the Age of Wi-Fi
Every year, a new wave of consumer smart-home devices floods the market — clever lightbulbs, voice assistants, gateways that promise to make your home "smart" with a few app downloads. And every year, the people who have lived with these systems for more than a season come to the same conclusion: convenience-first wireless never quite delivers what luxury demands.

The Reliability Argument
KNX runs on a dedicated twisted-pair bus, completely independent of your Wi-Fi router, your internet provider, and the increasingly crowded 2.4 GHz spectrum. When your Wi-Fi goes down — and it will — the lights still turn on. The climate still works. The curtains still close at sunset. Wireless smart homes simply do not offer this level of resilience.
The Future-Proofing Argument
KNX is an open ISO standard. Any device from any certified manufacturer can join the same bus, today and twenty years from now. Compare this to a Wi-Fi smart-bulb ecosystem locked behind a single vendor's cloud — when that vendor pivots, sunsets the product, or simply goes out of business (as several already have), your home becomes an expensive mausoleum.
The Craft Argument
The KNX ecosystem is where the world's best residential electronics live. Ekinex, Basalte, MDT, Gira — none of these manufacturers makes a Wi-Fi-only product line, because their clients do not ask for one. The wall-mounted craft of a brushed-walnut Ekinex ERA keypad simply does not exist in the wireless world.
When We Layer Wireless
That said, we do use wireless. AirPlay 2 for audio, Wi-Fi 6E for client devices, mobile apps for remote control. Wireless is the supplement; KNX is the foundation. The trick is knowing which is which.
